St. Thomas & St. John Historic Photos tells the story of the two islands from 1855 to the sale of the Danish West Indies to the United States in 1917. The book revolves partly around the societal developments, like the harbor industry of Charlotte Amalie, trade and commerce, and the growth of tourism. And it also covers cultural and everyday aspects of life on St. Thomas and St. John.
The book, written both in English and Danish, documents in an exciting and relevant way a forgotten part of history. The numerous photos, many which have never been published before, bring the reader back in time, but one can clearly recognize St. Thomas and St. John of today.
